Sound Vista Kids: How I Turned a Job into a Community Movement
Sound Vista is a mobile home park in Washington — a no-frills community of hardworking families who deserve to feel just as proud of their home as anyone else. As an assistant to the property manager, I saw an opportunity to give something back to the people who make this community what it is.
Behind every door at Sound Vista are real families, real neighbors, and real kids with big dreams. Sound Vista Kids was born from a simple belief — that every community, regardless of its size or income level, deserves to have traditions, to celebrate its people, and to feel a genuine sense of belonging.
I started with the kids because children are the heart of any neighborhood. By celebrating their creativity, their dreams, and their voices, I wanted to give every family a reason to feel proud of where they live and invested in the people around them. No competition, no pressure — just every child getting their own dedicated feature page on the community website and a small thank-you gift card in the mail, as a token of appreciation from management to the families who call Sound Vista home.
What started as an idea has grown into an annual tradition — a recurring celebration that the Sound Vista community can look forward to every year. Sound Vista Kids is about more than the kids. It's about dignity, pride, and proving that belonging isn't determined by your zip code or the size of your home.

Varsity Golf Captain
Varsity Golf Golf has been a huge part of my high school experience. I have played varsity golf throughout high school and became a captain of the team. As captain, I try to lead by example, help younger players, and keep the team focused during practices and tournaments. I compete as one of the top players on the team and have helped Kamiak win league and district championships, win league again, and place 5th at the WIAA 4A State Championship. One of the things I am most proud of is earning the “Best Captain EVER” award from my coach. To me, that meant a lot because it showed that my leadership mattered, not just my scores. Golf has taught me how to stay calm, be consistent, and move on from mistakes. Those lessons have helped me in school, leadership, and a lot of other parts of my life.
ASB Treasurer
ASB Treasurer As ASB Treasurer, I help manage money for school events, programs, and activities. Since Kamiak has over 2,400 students, the decisions ASB makes can affect a lot of people. My role includes tracking funds, reviewing spending requests, helping with budgets, and working with other student leaders and advisors. It has taught me how much planning goes into the events students see at school. I like ASB because it connects finance with school community. The money is not just numbers on a spreadsheet. It turns into assemblies, events, clubs, and activities that students actually experience.
DECA
DECA DECA has been one of the main ways I have explored business in high school. As Vice President of Finance, I help manage chapter money, track revenue and expenses, create budgets, and prepare financial reports. A lot of my work happens behind the scenes, but I like that. The chapter needs accurate numbers to make good decisions, and I enjoy being the person who helps keep that organized. DECA has also given me the chance to compete and apply business ideas outside of class. Qualifying for Nationals through Chapter Campaigns and qualifying for State in Entrepreneurship Team Decision Making made me more confident in my ability to think quickly, work with a team, and explain business decisions.
FBLA
FBLA In FBLA, I serve as Treasurer and help manage the club’s finances and records. I also help with planning and supporting our chapter’s events and competitions. I placed 3rd in one event and 5th in another, which qualified me for the State Leadership Conference. Competing in FBLA helped me get better at presenting and explaining my ideas under pressure. FBLA has been another way for me to build my business skills outside of class. It has also taught me that leadership is not always about having the biggest role in the room. Sometimes it is about being reliable, organized, and prepared.
Video Games Club
Video Games Club I started Video Games Club because I wanted to create a fun space where students could hang out, compete, and meet people they might not normally talk to. As president, I organize tournaments, make brackets, plan logistics, promote events, and help make sure everything runs smoothly. We have hosted large tournaments with over 40 students, and the club has become a place where people can relax and enjoy themselves after school. This club taught me that community does not always have to be built through something serious. Sometimes people just need a place where they feel welcome, and Video Games Club became that for a lot of students.
WearThere
WearThere WearThere is a clothing club at Kamiak that focuses on fashion, sustainability, and giving back. I help as Treasurer and one of the founding members. My role is to help manage club funds, track expenses, and support clothing drives and events. We want the club to be a place where students can connect through clothing while also helping people who need it. I like WearThere because it feels creative but also useful. It is not just about clothes or style. It is about taking something students already care about and using it to build community.
