Mukilteo Youth Advisory Council
The Mukilteo Youth Advisory Committee (MYAC) is an official body established by the Mukilteo City Council, serving as a direct liaison between the youth of Mukilteo and local government. Made up of residents between the ages of 14 and 18 and appointed by the Mayor, MYAC makes policy recommendations, organizes community events, and works to get more young people engaged in civic life.
I serve as a Social Chair (Treasurer)— responsible for managing the committee's finances and ensuring every initiative is thoughtfully budgeted. Being part of MYAC has reinforced my belief that young people have a real role to play in shaping the communities they grow up in, and it's a responsibility I don't take lightly.
Assistant Golf Coach — Passing the Game Forward, One Swing at a Time
I have been volunteering as an assistant golf coach at Harbour Pointe Golf Club in Mukilteo, Washington since my sophomore year, working alongside PGA professional Tim Ressa. Harbour Pointe is more than a golf course to me — it's where I learned that golf has the power to teach kids discipline, patience, and confidence in ways that go far beyond the fairway.
I work with kids ranging from 7 years old through middle school — an age group where first impressions of a sport can last a lifetime. My biggest focus isn't technique or scorecard — it's making sure every kid walks off that course with a smile and wanting to come back. If I can plant a genuine love for this game in a child early enough, everything else follows naturally.
One of the most rewarding parts of this role is taking the youn
g players out on the actual course and playing alongside them. It sounds simple, but it's anything but. Golf courses have a pace to maintain, and keeping young, enthusiastic kids moving while making sure they're having fun — without feeling rushed or overwhelmed — takes a great deal of patience and genuine care. Every round is a balancing act between teaching the etiquette of the game and making sure the experience feels joyful, not stressful. The time I spend on the course with these kids — time I could easily spend playing with friends or more experienced players — is a choice I make willingly, because I genuinely believe that showing up for someone who is just starting out matters more than a better round of golf.
Growing up, I had coaches who believed in me and invested their time in my development. Volunteering alongside Coach Tim is my way of paying that forward. Golf has given me so much — focus, resilience, and a community I'm proud to be part of. I want the next generation to have that same experience and discover for themselves what this game can do for them, on and off the course.
